Graveyards - The Cities of the Deads

In New Orleans, since they are already below sea-level, graves are above ground. As you can see below in the first picture, they look like cities. I like the way that the first one below goes from city of the dead to city of the living in smooth transition.


I can't claim to be an authority on the subject of these tombs, but what I was told on the tour was that these crypts have either bars or a tray behind the door that they slide in a new casket. Then, they bake at 120F for a year. When ready to add the next "resident", they open the door, remove the casket handles and hinges (with is all that remains along with the bones) and they push the bones back into the pit dug into the back or middle of the crypt. Then the new casket is put in and the whole process starts again.
